Italian Domenico Pozzovivo won the 166.7km stage six of Tour de Suisse in La Punt today.

The AG2R La Mondiale rider was followed home by UAE Team Emirates’ Rui Costa, who was four seconds behind Pozzovivo, with Ion Izaguirre taking third alongside him in a three-man group.
“This is a very important victory, a World Tour race, and the first big race for me after the Giro, so it’s a big satisfaction for the whole squad,” said Pozzovivo.
“I was waiting for a victory like this because I was very strong in the Tour of the Alps, and then had a good Giro.
“The Giro was very hard but I came out of it with a good condition. Today was a very hard day with lots of climbing, but I’m really happy I was able to win.”
The stage winner now tops the overall standings with BMC Racing Team’s Damiano Caruso in second and LottoNl-Jumbo’s Steven Kruijswijk 13 seconds behind.
One non-starter on the stage was Giro d’Italia winner Sunweb’s Tom Dumoulin who has withdrawn from the race due to fatigue.
