A level playing field saw 51-year-old Hannele Steyn win stage one of the Trans Augrabies mountain bike race on Friday.
Her revised time in the handicap event was 2:47:38. She was followed home by 62-year-old Fourie Kotze (2:47:40) and 52-year-old Corrie Muller (3:04:32).
The organisers of the Trans Augrabies use an innovative handicap system that allows all riders to compete for the main prizes and therefore there is only one podium in each of the three stages.
