Cameron Wright and Laura Stigger were the first world champions crowned at the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships that got underway in Cairns, Australia, today.
Wright and Stigger won the junior men and women’s cross country races after they faced the technical 4.3km course.
Wright (Australia), who hails from South Africa, finished his five laps in 1:07:56 to take the world title ahead of Joel Roth (Switzerland) and Holden Jones (Canada).
A mere 15 seconds separated the top women as Stigger (Austria) took the overall honours in 1:03:27, ahead of Loana Lecomte (France) and Nadia Grod (Switzerland).
