Seconds separated the top three men’s teams as they sprinted for the line on the fifth day of the Cape Pioneer Trek, which finished in Oudtshoorn today.
Alan Hatherly crossed the line first with Spur RedE teammate Matt Beers the first of the second riders to cross the line. The nail biting finish was the pair’s fifth consecutive victory. Bram Rood and Gerben Mos snatched second place from Nico Bell and Gawie Combrinck.
Sabine Spitz and Robyn de Groot continued from yesterday’s success, securing their second stage victory. They beat leaders Ariane Luthi and Amy McDougall while Frankie du Toit and Nicky Giliomee finished third.
Mixed team Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio and husband Carl Pasio took their first win of the event as they beat Charles McFall and Carmen Buchacher. Yesterday’s winners Joel Stransky and Yolande de Villiers finished third.
