Michael Loubscher won the opening stage of the Eselfontein MTB Stage Race at Eselfontein Farm in Ceres, Western Cape, yesterday.

Loubscher finished the 40km race in 1:47:16 ahead of Jean de Villiers (1:49:19) and Francois Bosman (1:58:12).
Fourth and fifth on the day were Marc Grune (2:04:35) and Charl Bleach (2:05:02).
The ladies race was won by Esther Lategan in 2:29:32. She was followed by Renee van Zyl (2:55:35) and Mandy Simpson (3:42:08).
