Matthys Beukes emerged from the mist to claim victory on the first day of the final round of the National MTB Series, which took place in Kaapsehoop, Mpumalanga, today.
Beukes, who started the event second overall, beat series leader and teammate Philip Buys after 64.6km of racing. He stopped the clock at 2:41:13 with a comfortable two minutes between him and Buys. They were followed seven minutes later by BCX’s HB Kruger.
Candice Lill, second overall in the women’s category, won the women’s race and finished 13th overall in 3:13:01. Yolandi du Toit finished 10 minutes later to secure second place, followed by Dalene van der Leek in third.
