Italy’s Vincenzo Nibali rode to victory when he won the 247km Giro di Lombardia in Como, Italy, today.

The Behrain-Merida rider finished the race from Bergamo in 6:15:29 to take his second Lombardia triumph.
Frenchman Julian Alaphilippe (Quick-Step Floors) followed 28 seconds later with Italian Gianni Moscon (Team Sky) in third and 38 seconds behind Nibali.
Nibali made his move with only 18km to the finish when he went into a lead group.
He then bridged across to Thibaut Pinot (FDJ). The two riders broke away and opened up a gap to the chasing group.
At the descent of the final climb, Pinot was caught by the peloton.
Out of the chasing bunch came Alaphilippe in pursuit of Nibali, but he did not have enough time to close the gap.
“I received great support from my team and I was in a great physical condition from the end of the season, but everyone was looking to me as the favourite. It wasn’t easy to win,” said Nibali.
“To win a monument is always something great.”
