Australian cyclist Jason Lowndes died this morning after colliding with a car during training.
His team, Israel Cycling Academy, announced his death in a statement.
Lowndes, who celebrated his 23rd birthday eight days ago, was training in his hometown of Bendigo, near Melbourne.

He turned professional in 2016 and was set to ride for a British team, JLT Condor, next year.
Early reports said he had died after being hit from behind by a car driven by a young woman.
“We are deeply grieved by the tragic death of our dear friend, rider, and teammate,” Israel Cycling Academy said in the statement.
“Jason’s constant broad smile, ever cheerful personality and warm heart will be terribly missed forever by all of us.
“We wish to send our deepest condolences to Jason’s family and friends all over the world. Good bye, wonderful mate.”
