The Drak Descent, a two-day mountain bike stage race, took place in the Drakensberg mountain range, KwaZulu-Natal, from yesterday.

Stage one
Stage one’s solo races were won by Andrew Hill and Andrea de Boer. Pyga Euro Steel’s Julian Jessop and Phillimon Sebona won the men’s team event. Darryn Purtell and Hayley Smith of Bell Equipment came first in the mixed category with Rosie Carey and Rentia Denissen (Bushbabes) first in the women’s team race.

Stage two
Hill also won the second stage, which secured him the overall title. Amanda Hawke won the solo women’s race, yet Andrea de Boer grabbed the overall honours. Pyga Euro Steel duo Phillimon Sebona and Julian Jessop secured the victory in the men’s team event after they took another stage win. Darryn Purtell and Hayley Smith (Bell Equipment) also came first again in the mixed category. Rosie Carey and Rentia Denissen (Bushbabes) made it two out of two when they won the women’s team event.
