James Thompson secured the men’s title of the Cradle Mountain Trophy mountain-bike race at The Cradle of Humankind, northwest of Johannesburg, today.

Thompson, who had a clean sweep of victories after winning both stages, finished in 4:41:20 ahead of Juan-Pierre van der Merwe (4:45:55) and Marc Rodrigues (4:49:59).
After finishing second on stage one and winning the second stage, Steph Blane claimed the women’s crown when she completed the 40km course in 5:47:44.
She was followed by Ronel van Wyk Nel (5:48:59) and Marli van Eeden (5:54:46).
Xander van der Merwe won the 40km one-day Mountain Adventure in 1:52:06 to beat Nigel Laver (2:00:42) and Dilan Roolvink (2:00:57).
The women’s event was won by Karien Alberts in 2:03:04, with Carolyn Thompson (2:04:32) and Thana Groenewald (2:05:38) in second and third respectively.
