Canyon Eisberg’s Harry Tanfield won the 182km first stage of the Tour de Yorkshire, which finished in Doncaster, England, yesterday.
The Englishman won in a sprint, beating compatriots JLT Condor’s Alistair Slater and Madison Genesis’ Michael Cuming to the line.

Tanfield likened the final dash to the line to a “time-trial”. “I wouldn’t really call it a sprint. It was more like a time trial to the line,” he said. “Everyone was gassed and there was a bit of a headwind.
“I just went straight up the middle and had time to get my hands in the air, so I can’t complain.”
DiData’s Serge Pauwels (Belgium) finishing 64th, Scott Davies (Britain) 83rd, Mark Cavendish (Britain) 93rd, Julien Vermote (Belgium) 96th, Mark Renshaw (Australia) 120th, Jay Thomson (South Africa) 124th and Nicolas Dougall (South Africa) 135th.
