Samantha Sanders will compete in her first race of this year’s Trailseeker Series when the second round takes place at Legends MX in Pretoria tomorrow.
“I haven’t raced in a while so I don’t have a particular strategy in mind other than to see how the legs feel.
“I’ve been on a big training block in preparation for SA Champs, so I honestly don’t know how my legs will feel. Hopefully they come to the party.”

The dormakaba rider said the Trailseeker Series always offered well-contested and well-attended events, so it was never easy to get a top result.
“As with most mountain-bike events you need some luck and obviously you have to be well prepared. The races are great in that the organisers always prepare a course that has a good mix to test your skills and fitness,” said Sanders.
She added that the women’s field was always strong and you could not expect to win if you were not on top of your game.
“Anyone who lines up is competition. I never overestimate my abilities nor underestimate anyone else’s.”
Sanders said she raced the Legends MX course last year, but that did not necessarily give her an advantage as conditions played a role so various things could be different on the day.
“I love racing and when I line up on the start my intention is always to empty the tank and race as hard as I can.”
Her focus will then move to the SA National XCO Championships in Bloemfontein next month.
“But beyond that I’ll take part in other events around the country and am super excited to be pairing up with teammate Amy [McDougall] for a few stage-races later on in the year.”
