Team Demacon’s Kim le Court was delighted to rack up yet another victory in a season full of successes after winning the 103km Cycle4Cansa Road Classic at Sun City yesterday.
It was the Mauritian-born rider’s fifth win of the year after taking the Cape Town Cycle Tour, Emperors Palace Road Classic, Tour Durban and 100 Cycle Challenge in the first half of the season.

“I feel awesome about winning my fifth race of the season,” Le Court told In the Bunch. “I am especially happy to take another win for my team,” she said, referring to Demacon’s dominant display in local races.
The team was “very supportive” in the race. “We looked after one another the whole race. Heidi [Dalton, her teammate] made it into a break in the first few kilometres.
“The break, however, got caught at around the 55km mark. Our team tried a few more attacks but we couldn’t manage to get away.
“We then decided to let it go and target a bunch sprint.”
Dalton played a decisive role in the closing kilometre. “Heidi took me into the last corner perfectly and led me out for the win,” she said, after beating Team Clover’s Sanet Coetzee in the final dash.
Despite the team’s major successes over the course of the year, Le Court admitted they were “pushed hard” at the Cycle4Cansa.
“Clover really impressed me today, especially Sanet and Elmari [de Wet],” she said.
“Joanna van de Winkel was also awesome on the day and she rode really positively.”
It was Le Court’s second attempt at the event, so she knew it was going to be a relatively fast and flat race. But she added that “being a sprinter, flat races suit me”.
However, there was some uncertainty following the recent winter break.
“Being the first race in the second half of the season you’re not entirely sure of everyone else’s form, including your own,” she said.
“The wind was a challenge, which played an outside factor as well.”
Le Court will now focus on the Race for Victory in Johannesburg on September 9.
