The Cape Town Cycle Tour will once again feature an elite women’s starting group after a highly successful trial run of the initiative last year.
All elite and under-23 women who have been seeded into the % start group for the race on March 10, will have the option to start at Recreation Road in Fish Hoek.
The start time for the invitational will be 6am and the distance will cover 78km.
Defending champion Kim le Court of Demacon MaxWax was full of praise for the introduction of the format after her victory last season.
“It was great for the women to have their own race – it made for positive racing and team tactics were crucial,” she said.
“I think we showed that we deserved to have our own race. This ensured a clear run all the way to the finish and it was epic.”
Like in 2018, the prize monies and title for the 2019 Cycle Tour will be awarded to the winner of this start group. The U23 title will also be awarded to the rider from this batch and should an U23 rider win the overall event, then they will claim both titles.
