Investec-songo-Specialized’s Annika Langvad and Anna van der Breggen came away unscathed again today to comfortably win the 43.5km Cape Epic time-trial at the Oak Valley Estate today.
The Danish-Dutch pair beat Summit Fin’s Candice Lill and Adelheid Morath by 1:44 to extend their overall lead to 25:27.
The pair have the title within their grasp and it now seems only serious mechanicals, injury or illness can prevent them from winning the Epic.

Despite their victory today, they said they deviated from their original plan.
“We didn’t stick to the plan,” Van der Breggen said. “When you’re in the race you want to go fast.
“But the plan was to do the time-trial steady and safe. I must say, though, that today was quite technical with the single-tracks.
“When I looked down I thought at times ‘I better not do that’. But it was fun riding.”
It was not all smooth sailing for the pair, however, as Langvad suffered a minor crash.
“On a sandy part my front wheel slipped down a slope off the track,” Langvad said.
“But it’s a long race and we’ve been racing for a few days in a row so it’s so easy to lose concentration for a moment.
“Luckily it was in a safe spot so nothing really happened.”
Reflecting on their dominant run of victories so far in the Epic, Langvad said: “It’s not easy at all. You have to maintain your concentration and focus.
“When you’re so tired most of the time that can be difficult. We’re slowly counting down the days.”
