German Karl Platt leads the Cape Rouleur after stage one, which finished in Franschhoek yesterday.
The stage comprised a 150km route, but had only three timed sections – a one-kilometre uphill drag sprint, a 14km undulating stage section, followed by a five-kilometre climb over Helshoogte Pass.
Shameeg Salie won the sprint and Platt won both the stage section and climb. The German now leads the overall standings following the prologue and the three timed sections on stage one.
Briton Jayati Hine leads the overall women’s standings after winning all three disciplines on stage one.
