Netherlands’ Jan van Schalp claimed victory in the men’s points race at the Track Cycling World Championships in Poland yesterday.
Van Schalp accumulated 104 points, beating Spain’s Sebastian Mora Vedri by 28 points. Ireland’s Mark Downey completed the podium.

South Africa’s Jean Spies was unable to qualify for the 1km finals after finishing 15th in the first round with a time of 1:02.61.
His compatriot, Charlene du Preez, was unable to progress to the knock-out rounds of the women’s sprint after failing to make it into the top 16 in the qualifying round.
