Adam Yates won stage three of the Volta a Catalunya after a game of cat and mouse between five riders on the Vallter 2000 ascent in Setcases, Spain, today.
Mitchelton-Scott’s Yates completed the 179km stage from Sant Feliu De Guíxols in 5:02:18 to beat Sky’s Egan Arley Bernal Gomez and UAE Team Emirates’ Daniel Martin.

Movistar’s Nairo Quintana, who finished fourth on the stage in the same time, and Astana Pro’s Miguel Angel Lopez, who followed two seconds later, completed the lead group of five.
Thomas De Gendt (Lotto Soudal) maintains the overall lead in 13:28:29. He is trailed by Yates (+0:00:27) and Gomez (+0:00:30).
