South African road champion Daryl Impey finished third on the second Volta a Catalunya stage in Sant Feliu De Guíxols, Spain, today.
Australian Michael Matthews won the 166.7km stage, which started in Mataró, in a time of 4:09:34.

Spain’s Alejandro Valverde claimed third position.
Fourth place went to Germany’s Maximilian Schachmann, with Norway’s Odd Christian Eiking in fifth.
“We really needed this – just for the confidence for the team, to know how strong we are against other teams. It’s a really beautiful victory,” said Matthews.
Belgium’s Thomas De Gendt retained his overall lead, while Valverde placed second and Matthews third.
