Thomas De Gendt took the victory after a solo ride into the finish on stage one of the Volta a Catalunya in Calella, Spain, today.

The Lotto Soudal completed the 164km stage in 4:14:32. Second over the line was Bora-Hansgrohe’s Maximilian Schachmann (+0:02:38) with Bahrain-Merida’s Grega Bole in third (+0:02:42).
Belgium’s De Gendt will be the first to wear the yellow jersey ahead of stage two. Second and third overall are Germany’s Schachmann and Slovenia’s Bole.
South Africa’s Daryl Impey (Mitchelton-Scott) finished seventh on the stage and lies ninth overall.
