joBerg2c results & GC: Hill & Bester ride to victory on stage three

April 28, 2019, 12:49 pm By In the Bunch

Andrew Hill and Shaun-Nick Bester rode to victory on stage three of joBerg2c at Sterkfontein Dam, Free State, today.

The Darkhorse Wheels-Insured by TIB pair completed the 120km route, which featured 1 150m of ascent, in 4:29:07.

Luke Evans and Craig Uria finished second, with Julian Gavillet and Ecoffey Sylvain third.

Bester said today was another good stage for them.

“After about 15km in, I made it hard up a singletrack section and we managed to get away. It was myself, HB [Kruger], Matthys [Beukes] and Andrew.

“We then worked together up until 63km in where there was a waterpoint and we had our support crew there so myself and Andrew stopped, while Matthys and HB kept going.”

He said from that point they did not go flat out to try and catch them because they were not their competition as they rode in the solo men’s category.

“We managed to close the gap without really trying, to about 20 seconds with 15km to go. Then we hit the Mount Paul climb and took it steady up there and down the downhill. We just kept on working together and managed to win.

“I’m really happy with our result and hope we can keep it up until the end of the race.”

Sarah Hill and Theresa Ralph won the women’s race in 5:07:24.

Michael Posthumus and Amy McDougall won the mixed race in 4:42:35, while Ben Melt Swanepoel and Yolandi du Toit finished second and Overney Corinne and Vincent Flueck third.

HB Kruger won solo men’s race. Second was Matthys Beukes, followed by Mark Vennix.

The solo women’s event was won by Sandra Hart
