A cyclist who was struck by a truck in Ontdekkers Road in Roodepoort, Gauteng, on Sunday has died according to a statement released on Stay Wider of the Rider’s social media platforms.
“Our club and its members are deeply saddened by the passing of Dr Willie Fourie,” said New Horizons Cycling Club’s spokesperson Ahmad Ali Banoo.
He added that while Fourie was not a member of their club, the incident happened along a stretch of road used by their members on a daily basis for training and commuting.
“Close calls and minor collisions have happened to us over the years.
“As a club we inquired from Stay Wider of the Rider if they have strategies to change driver behaviour as that is one of the ways cyclists will be safer on the roads.”
