Primoz Roglic set the fastest time on the opening stage of Giro d’Italia in Bologna, Italy, today.
The Slovenian, who started his 8.2km individual time-trial 12th on the day, set a time of 12:54 and was unbeatable for the remainder of the stage.

The only man who was considered to be able to beat Roglic was Englishman Simon Yates, who only left the shoot third from last.
It was a nail-biting battle between the Mitchelton-Scott rider and Jumbo-Visma’s Roglic as Yates raced his test against the clock.
But he was unable to meet the bar Roglic had set and ended up 19 seconds behind the winner.
Third and 23 seconds down from Roglic was Italian Vincenzo Nibali (Bahrain-Merida).
Roglic, who is the first to wear the pink jersey in this year’s tour, said afterwards there was not a clear tactic ahead of the stage and that it was just to go through the whole course as fast as possible.
“Of course, it is a gap and you always want more and more but we have (the team) won and we have the first day behind us.
“I am super happy. I have been waiting for three hours but it is a really nice feeling to get pink today.”
Yates and Nibali are second and third in the overall standings.
