Uwe Koetter Jewellers, who are known for their innovative approach to designs and technology, have launched two similarly forward-thinking cycling challenges – #RidetheHunt and RISE.
#RidetheHunt in five stages
The #RidetheHunt challenge is a virtual team one. There is no race day as such, but cycling is required.
Season one runs from May to September this year and works on a points system. Stage prizes are awarded while the overall competition winner will receive a luxury tented accommodation team entry to the 2019 FNB Wines2Whales.
The first stage took place over the popular Bloemendal and Hillcrest trails of the Tygerberg Mountain Bike Club during May.
Stage two is scheduled for June on the well-crafted Wild Boar Trails at the picturesque Val du Charron Wine and Leisure Estate, situated just outside Wellington. The winners of this leg will receive two nights’ accommodation on the acclaimed estate, inclusive of breakfast.
The third stage, circumnavigating Paarl Mountain, will be hosted by Hero Adventure during July. Starting at the Hero Adventure trail centre on Rhebokskloof and finishing at the restaurant, the reward – and views – are guaranteed to be spectacular while the stage prizes are sure to leave you smiling.
Competitors return to Durbanville and the Stark Family Farm during August for stage four. The Contermanskloof and Hooggekraal trails are favourites among locals and likely to grow in popularity with the newly added craft brewery.
Stage five takes place in the Du Toitskloof Valley, an area which Cape Epic participants are familiar with. It promises an exciting end to the series in September and the trails, designed and built by seven-time Xterra world champion Conrad Stolz, should be top-notch.

RISE to the challenge
The RISE challenge, which takes place from June to November this year, takes on a very different format.
It is an individual virtual challenge where riders are pushed to beat their personal bests by attaining the greatest weighted ascent. It is all about Strava and the data.
Weighted ascent is calculated by dividing your 2019 personal records by your 2018 personal records (calculated over the same period as the challenge) and multiplying the result by the elevation gain you have achieved between June and November this year.
The format allows users from across the county – and indeed the world – to take part. Whether riders are on mountain, gravel or road bikes, they are encouraged to take the road less travelled and to push the bar.
Join the Strava club for either challenge and find new routes, riding groups or take part in discussions.
