Rohan Dennis won the individual time-trial on stage one of Tour de Suisse in Langnau, Switzerland, today.
The Bahrain-Merida rider completed the 9.5km course in 10:50, beating Poland’s Maciej Bodnar (Bora-Hansgrohe) and compatriot Michael Matthews (Sunweb).
Australia’s Dennis is the first to wear the leader’s jersey ahead of stage two tomorrow. Bodnar lies second with Matthews in third.
“I’m pretty happy it’s been a long time between wins, since September last year so to get that monkey off my back is a good feeling,” said Dennis afterwards.
“It installs a little bit more confidence in my ability to win no matter what equipment I’m on.”
He added that there was still the rest of the week and that he had the next time-trial, which is later in the week, in mind.
“There’s also the Tour de France. I’m looking forward to it.”
