Vincenzo Nibali won the shortened stage 20 of the Tour de France in Val Thorens today.
The Italian, who completed a solo ride for Bahrain-Merida from around 12km to the finish, beat Spaniards Alejandro Valverde (Movistar) and Mikel Landa (Movistar) in the 59km stage from Albertville.
Egan Bernal, who crossed the finish line alongside teammate and 2018 champion Geraint Thomas, came in fourth and leads the overall standings in 79:52:52.
The Ineos rider now only has the final stage left before he can be crowned the 2019 champion.
Thomas lies second, one minute and 11 seconds behind Bernal, while Jumbo-Visma’s Steven Kruijswijk moved to third and is a further 20 seconds down.
German Emanuel Buchmann (Bora-Hansgrohe) now lies fourth (+0:01:56) as Frenchman Julian Alaphilippe, who was in yellow for most of the tour, moved to fifth. The Deceuninck-QuickStep rider lost over three minutes after he dropped back from the peloton at 13km remaining.
