Mathieu van der Poel won the elite men’s cross-country short circuit race by five seconds from second place finisher Henrique Avancini at the UCI MTB World Cup in Val di Sole, Italy, yesterday.
The Brazilian was no match for Dutchman Van der Poel as he completed the XCC event in 20:31. Belgian Jens Schuermans came in 14 seconds later to take third.
Switzerland’s Jolanda Neff claimed the women’s victory in 20:24. She was followed by compatriot Sina Frei, who finished two seconds later, and France’s Pauline Ferrand Prevot, a further six seconds behind.
