Timothy Hammond proved to be on a roll when he won the solo men’s event on stage one of The U MTB Stage Race in Piketberg, Western Cape, today.

Hammond, who also finished first in the prologue yesterday, beat Oli Munnik and Robert Sim in the 49km race.
Michelle Lombardi topped the women’s event ahead of Tanya Rabie and Lizl Hobson.
Carel Vosloo and James Reid claimed victory in the men’s team competition. Tim Ellerbeck and Warren Price followed in second with Eben Espach and Linus Vanonselen rounding out the podium.
The mixed event was won by Linda and Gareth Hitchings, while Adrienne and Anton Moolman finished in second. Third were Aileen Anderson and Walter Brosius.
Megan Skowno and Ingrid Peens secured the women’s honours ahead of Claudia Schonitz and Diane Obree.
