David Maree overpowered Dylan Girdlestone to snatch the Tshwane Classic victory in Pretoria today.
Girdlestone, who won last year, attacked with 2km remaining and only Maree followed.
Maree said he went hard to get to him and eventually bridged the gap.
“With 500m to go I wacked it and managed to get the jump on Dylan. I was amazed that I managed to stay away.”
Maree rode in solo with 10m separating him from Girdlestone.
Nick James completed the podium.
The women’s event was won by Kim le Court, who beat defending champion Carla Oberholzer into second. Joanna van de Winkel placed third.
