Philip Buys and Candice Lill conquered 3 020m of ascent over 75km to emerge victorious in the Big Five MTB Challenge in Wellington today.

The event’s main challenge is the five major climbs along the singletracks of Wellington’s surrounding mountains. The route is also where the fifth stage of the Cape Epic takes place.
Buys (PYGA Euro Steel) finished the event in 3:42:53, ahead of Gert Heyns (DSV Pro Cycling) who was more than two minutes adrift. Matthys Beukes (PYGA Euro Steel) completed the podium.
Jennie Stenerhag (Fairtree Capital) finished more than eight minutes behind Lill (Faces CST) with a time of 4:29:03. Anne Tauber (Faces CST) was third.
