Byron Munton successfully defended his U23 individual time-trial title at the SA National Road Championships at the Swadini Forever Resort near Hoedspruit today.

“I’m extremely happy to have taken the title again. I can’t wait to show off the jersey in the next time-trial,” said Byron to In the Bunch.
The 21-year-old finished the 36km event in 44:17, beating Marc Pritzen by more than a minute. Jean-Pierre Lloyd completed the podium.
“It was a really tough day in the saddle. The first part of the course really didn’t suit me too well.
“Being fast with a tailwind section, I had to conserve and hold back for the final part. I held my power pretty well considering I had to hold back a bit due to a side stitch, which I also had at Western Cape Champs.”
