This victory extended his unbeaten run to eight years.
The 35-year-old completed the 36km ITT in 41 minutes and 45 seconds, which was 40 seconds ahead of Stefan de Bod. Kent Main finished two minutes and eight seconds behind Impey.
“It’s always nice to bring the jersey back to Europe and doing it for the ninth time it’s been quite a nice run so far,” said Impey.
“It’s just nice to represent my country with the SA flag for another year. I think that’s important.”
He added that the race itself was “pretty tough”. It was quite difficult returning from the Tour Down Under and Australia, then packing up four days later to do a time-trial at the SA champs.
“But I managed the course really well and came in the best I could, considering the jetlag.
“Sunday is now the goal and I will do everything I can to try and retain the jersey.”
Impey was referring to the 175km road race where he will seek to defend his title.
