This year’s Cape Epic, which was scheduled to start on Sunday, has been cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, as announced by race organisers this evening.
They stated that out of concern for the health and safety of their riders and other stakeholders, following recent advice received from the Western Cape Government, they had no choice but to cancel.
The organisers added that their medical partner and sponsors support the decision.
“I have taken this step with a heavy heart, but the health and safety of everybody involved in the event has to be paramount,” said race founder Kevin Vermaak.
“At 6pm today we received the formal advice from government.”
