The coronavirus pandemic has caused the postponement of yet another cycling event – this time the 36ONE MTB Challenge, which was due to take place from April 24 to 26.

The testing 361km event will now be presented from November 13 to 15 in Oudtshoorn.
Organisers have taken the decision in light of recent developments in the worldwide Covid-19 pandemic.
“It’s not a decision we took lightly, but following President Cyril Ramaphosa’s statement in his recent address, continuing as scheduled with the 36ONE MTB Challenge would be impossible,” said Henco Rademeyer of Dryland Event Management.
“Given the trends we have witnessed in China and Italy, in particular, we suspect the situation will worsen in South Africa between now and the end of April.
“In light of that it would be irresponsible to stage an event as large as this in a small town like Oudtshoorn, where medical resources may need to be focused on the most vulnerable members of our community.”
