The Schools MTB League have announced that they will be cancelling SpurFest 2020, which was set to take place from March 27 to 29, following the national COVID-19 containment measures unveiled by President Cyril Ramaphosa last night.
They also said entry fees would be refunded.
The League, as well as Spur Steak Ranches and Schools Cycling South Africa say they support the measures introduced by the government in a bid to contain the spread of the coronavirus.
“Schools Cycling South Africa (SCSA) is of the firm belief that everyone can and should contribute to preventing or slowing down the spread of COVID-19 and it is obvious that schools have a critical role to play,” said SCSA president Annelize Ziehl-Owens.
“SCSA will follow the guidelines of our government and the department of education.
“Further measures may be implemented at short notice by the schools and education and public health authorities.
“SCSA in conjunction with the League are taking our responsibility seriously and will monitor this closely.”
All League participants as well as their families are urged to follow protocol and remain safe.
