Tyronne White says it has been a tough start to the year for him, but he hopes to turn his luck around when he lines up to defend his title at the Kamberg Classic at Glengarry on Sunday.

“I’m not going in with major expectations. I’m just going to race as hard as I can,” said White.
“I just haven’t felt great on the bike since the Drak Descent and have been very busy with work. But I’m definitely slowly starting to feel better.”
White said he enjoyed the race last year, which was the first time he’d taken part.
“It makes for a great weekend away with family and friends and a bit of a chance to relax in the Berg.
“Obviously it’s part of the Roag Series which means it would help a lot to get a good result,” said White, who won the overall series last year.
He added that it was not easy to have a strategy for these events as it depended who was on the start line.
“I just always aim to give my all and hope that’s enough to be fighting for a podium.”
Regarding the route for the 60km mountain bike classic, White said it looked to be very different this year so he was not sure what to expect.
“It’s a tough race, being at altitude with some hard climbs, but it’s the same for everyone so you just need to get the most out of your own race.
“Overall, the vibe at the KZN classics is always fantastic and as hard as the racing is up front, we all get on really well and enjoy ourselves out there.”
White said he would love to win the series again this year, but knew he faced some stiff competition.
“I’ll definitely do my best to achieve that, but Stuart Marais and Andrew Hill have really started this season strong and will be extremely tough to beat.”
