Road ace Kim le Court will take her foray into mountain biking a step further when she chases another podium spot in the Trailseeker Series in Cullinan, Gauteng, on Saturday.
The Mauritian, who is based in Pretoria, won the Cape Town Cycle Tour in 2018 and has made her mark in South African road events.
Earlier this year she took the title in the Ride for Sight road race in Boksburg.
However, after five months of lockdown in Mauritius, the 24-year-old decided to try out a few mountain bike races and is enjoying the experience.
In the Trailseeker race at Sondela near Bela-Bela just under two weeks ago, Le Court, who rides for Demacon, finished second to Galileo Risk-Infiniti’s Theresa Ralph and is motivated to podium again this weekend.
“I felt Sondela was very close and unfortunately I had a mechanical while being in front alone with Theresa,” she said after finishing just over a minute behind the winner.
“But I was super pleased with my second place, for sure.”
Le Court, who last competed in mountain biking in 2015, said she had never seen the Cullinan course.
“It will be a case of going into new territory so I will tackle it as best I can and adjust any strategies during the race.”
She didn’t single out any particular rivals because of what she saw as the unpredictability of mountain biking.
“I really just see everyone as my main rival,” said Le Court.
“In mountain biking you never really know how the race will develop, so my approach is just to focus on my ride and give my best.”
The feature race will cover a distance of 70km.
