Myles van Musschenbroek won the 113km men’s elite road race at the inaugural Joburg Classic in Randburg this morning.
Van Musschenbroek (PayFlex), who placed third in last Sunday’s Ride Joburg Criterium, crossed the line in 2:43:51 to beat Andries Nigrini (Drake Events Cycling) and Joshua van Wyk (Team Enza) into second and third respectively.
Sarah Hill (Galileo Risk) claimed a narrow victory in the women’s event, getting the better of Joanna van de Winkel (Cycle Nation). Melissa Kretzinger completed the podium.
“It was raining right from the start, but it cleared up after 30 minutes,” said Van Musschenbroek.
“A small group of about eight riders got away 10km into the race and it eventually whittled down to about six halfway through.
“With 20km to go I put in a big attack and managed to get clear of the five chasers and I was able to hold them off to take the win.
“The course really suited me. I have been training really hard so I took advantage of it and have been doing really good.”
