The annual champs to determine the best on the African continent will take place in Cairo, Egypt, from March 2 to 6.
Gibbons is the reigning national road champion and has also tasted success at previous African championships.
He was part of the time-trial team in 2013 which won the bronze medal and he also finished third in the individual time-trial in 2019.
“I know that all of the riders selected are very talented, so I’m excited to race alongside them in our national colours,” Gibbons told In the Bunch today.
“It’s always an honour and privilege to present your country,” he added.
Gibbons will have a busy championship as part of the road and team time-trial team. He is also expected to be named as one of the two SA entrants in the individual time-time.
The 26-year-old recently signed a two-year contract with WorldTour outfit UAE Team Emirates.
