This year’s Giro d’Italia will start with a 9km individual time-trial in the streets of Turin, organisers announced today.
Team Ineos’ Filippo Ganna, the reigning world time-trial champion, will start as the overwhelming favourite to take early possession of the maglia rosa.
The second stage will cover 173km from Stupinigi to Novara, followed by stage three over 187km from Biella to Canale.
The remainder of the route for the 104th edition of the race from May 8 to 30 has not yet been revealed.
Britain’s Tao Geoghegan Hart (Team Ineos) is the defending champion, but he is not expected to defend his pink jersey.
He is slated to ride the Tour de France instead in support of teammate Geraint Thomas.
