Stefan de Bod is South Africa’s only entrant in the opening UCI WorldTour race of the season, the UAE Tour.
The seven-day stage race will take place from February 21 to 27.
De Bod has been named in the Astana-Premier Tech line-up alongside team leader Alexey Lutsenko, Manuele Boaro, Yevgeniy Gidich, Dmitriy Gruzdev, Benjamin Perry and Matteo Sobrero.
He signed a two-year contract with the Kazakhstan team days after his 24th birthday in November 2020 having previously ridden for Dimension Data for six years.
Worcester-born De Bod boasts an impressive palmares.
At national level he’s a three-time U23 ITT champion and a two-time U23 road winner.
He also won the gold medal in the ITT 2019 African Continental Road Championships.
The 2021 UAE Tour has attracted a high-quality peloton for what will be the third edition of the race.
Great Britain’s Adam Yates (Ineos) is the defending champion.
