Belgium star Wout van Aert add the Gent-Wevelgem title to his 2021 season palmarès today.
Van Aert proved strongest from a seven-rider breakaway which included five of the race’s star sprinters to win the 83rd edition of the one-day classic.
Giacomo Nizzolo (Qhubeka-Assos) finished second ahead of Matteo Trentin (UAE Team Emirates).
Sonny Colbrelli (Bahrain Victorious) was fourth ahead of Michael Matthews (BikeExchange) and Stefan Kung (Groupama-FDJ), while Nathan van Hooydonck (Jumbo-Visma), who played a valuable role for Van Aert, rolled home with his arms aloft in seventh place.
