Thomas de Gendt (Lotto Soudal) won the seventh and final stage of the Volta a Catalunya today as Adam Yates wrapped up his first stage victory for his new Ineos team.
Belgium’s De Gendt finished 22 seconds ahead of Matej Mohoric (Bahrain Victorious) after the pair had broken away from the peloton late in the 133km stage around Barcelona.
The win was De Gendt’s 16th of his career and fifth in Catalunya having picked up previous victories in 2013, 2016, 2018 and 2019.
Hungary’s Attila Valter took third 1:42 behind and just ahead of the main peloton which included Great Britain’s Yates who took overall victory.
