Belgian Jasper Stuyven upset his more famed rivals to win the 112th edition of Milan-San Remo today.
The 28-year-old Trek-Segafredo rider broke away in the closing stages of the 299km race and hung on grimly to take the biggest win of his career.
Australia’s Caleb Ewan finished second ahead of Belgium’s defending champion Wout van Aert.
“I can’t describe how I feel. It’s unbelievable,” a delighted Stuyven said post-race after becoming the 22nd Belgian winner of the season’s first of five “monument” races.
