Primoz Roglic took his third stage win at Paris-Nice today, reeling in Gino Mader in the closing metres of the summit finish of Valdeblore La Colmiane.
In doing so, the Slovenian world No-1 ranked rider consolidated his lead in the yellow jersey.
Roglic broke the heart of his Swiss Bahrain Victorious foe who was the final escapee from the day’s early break.
Defending champion Max Schachmann (Bora-Hansgrohe) took third, five seconds back.
Roglic, the overnight yellow jersey wearer, jumped away from an elite GC group with 300 metres to go.
The Jumbo-Visma star now holds a 52-second lead over Schachman heading into Sunday’s final stage. Aleksandr Vlasov (Astana-Premier Tech) lies third overall at 1:11.
Sunday’s concluding stage, which traditionally finishes on the Promenade des Anglais in Nice, will end instead in the town of Levens, to avoid a local Covid-19 lockdown.
It will start from the Plan du Var, about 30km north of Nice.
