Tour de France champion Tadej Pogacar won stage four of Tirreno-Adriatico today and in doing so took the overall race lead.
The 22-year-old Slovenian UAE Team Emirates rider broke away from a select group of GC contenders on the slopes of the final Prati di Tivo climb to take the victory.
Simon Yates finished second with Sergio Higuita in third.
Pogacar, who won last month’s UAE Tour, will take a 35-second lead over Wout van Aert into Sunday’s stage five which will see the riders cover 205km from Castellalto to Catelfidardo.
The race will conclude on Tuesday, March 16.
