Up-and-coming Swiss star Stefan Bissegger won Paris-Nice’s stage three individual time-trial around Gien today.
Bissegger, who will turn 23 on Saturday, covered the 14.4km route in 17:34 to edge France’s Remi Cavagna (Deceuninck-Quick-Step) by less than a second to clinch his first ever WorldTour win.
In addition, he took over as the race leader.
Pre-race favourite Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma) finished third, six seconds behind, to take a firm grip on the eight-day race.
EF Education-Nippo’s Bissegger first served notice of his time-trial skills when finishing second at last month’s UAE Tour time-trial behind world champion Filippo Ganna.
Wednesday’s stage four over 188km will see the riders depart Chalon-sur-Saone and finish on the category one summit of Chiroubles.
