The pressure is mounting for Frances Janse van Rensburg as she heads into this week’s SA National Road Championships with the objective of defending her individual time-trial and road race titles.
The 20-year-old from Hilton in KwaZulu-Natal showed superb form earlier this month when she claimed gold medals in the same events at the African Continental Road Championships in Cairo, Egypt.
Janse van Rensburg, who triumphed in both disciplines in the U23 category in Mpumalanga a year ago, said she was determined not to give up her titles without a fight and added that her preparations were on track.
“As the holder, I definitely feel some pressure, but I have done all the preparation that I could have over the last few months and now I just have to go out there and give it my best shot.”
