Team SA walked away with three medals from the UCI Mountain Bike Masters World Championships in Andorra at the end of August.

Downhillers Kathryn Fourie and Joanne Hicks finished second and third respectively in the women’s 30 to 34 age category, while Rika Olivier scooped silver in the 40 to 44 division.

Fourie said her nerves had gotten the better of her and she crashed twice on the circuit in pursuit of gold.
“The crashes were enough that I had to run back to my bike each time and get going again, but nothing too epic.”
She caught up with the other riders at the bottom but said it would have been too risky to consider passing them.
“I was happy to take second in my category, and Jo took third. Two SA shirts on the podium at once was pretty cool in the pictures.”
