Multiple H1 para-cycling world champion Pieter “Supa Piet” du Preez will be aiming to grab yet another international title at the UCI Para-cycling Road World Cup in Pietermaritzburg this weekend.

The Paralympian and first ever quadriplegic Ironman participant is looking forward to taking on the world on home soil.

“The fact that I’ll be doing it in the rainbow jersey is just an added bonus and an indescribable feeling,” he said.
“I’m feeling good; my form is okay, so I’m feeling confident. Due to the events following the World Cup, I need to focus on the chair quite a bit as well because I want to break the record.”
Du Preez became a C6 quadriplegic after an accident at the age of 23 and has continued to push himself to the limits.
After the World Cup, he jets off to Germany for the Berlin Marathon with the aim of taking his fourth straight win and smashing the world record in his category.
Thereafter, he heads for a wheelchair marathon in Japan before logging another Ironman in December.
“I feel that this has been my best year yet, with seven African records and one world record at the athletics world champs (sprint).”
